Physical Button Layout Differences
Share Button: The most visible change is the addition of a dedicated Share button centrally located on the new Series SX controller face, replacing the previous "View" label. This allows instant screenshot/video capture without menu navigation.
D-Pad: The Series S controller features a hybrid D-pad with a concave dish design and tactile octagonal gate, replacing the original's four-way plus-shaped cross. This enhances precision for diagonal inputs in fighting games.
Ergonomic & Performance Enhancements
- Textured Grips: Matte finish on triggers/bumpers and textured grips on sides/rear improve handling compared to the original's smooth plastic.
- Reduced Latency: Dynamic Latency Input (DLI) technology cuts input lag by ~40ms versus original controllers via wireless protocol optimization.
- Revised Analog Sticks: Tighter tension and textured thumbstick caps prevent slipping, addressing durability concerns from earlier models.
Connectivity & Compatibility
The new controller supports Bluetooth Low Energy alongside proprietary Xbox Wireless, enabling easier pairing with mobile devices. While both work on Xbox One and Series SX consoles, the Share button requires Series SX or Windows 10/11 for full functionality. USB-C replaces Micro-USB for faster charging.

Design Refinements
Size Reduction: Slightly smaller form factor (approximately 10% reduction in height) with contours optimized for diverse hand sizes. Buttons feature matte finishes to reduce fingerprint visibility versus original glossy surfaces.
