Sticky Keys often trigger accidentally during gameplay or typing, disrupting workflow. Follow these permanent solutions to disable this feature across Windows versions.
Disable Sticky Keys via Settings (Windows 10 & 11)
Navigate through these system settings:
- Press Windows + I to open Settings
- Select Accessibility > Keyboard
- Turn off the toggle for Sticky Keys
- Click Sticky Keys settings below the toggle
- Uncheck both: Allow the shortcut key to start Sticky Keys and Show notification icon
Disable Sticky Keys via Control Panel (All Windows)
Alternative method for legacy systems:

- Type Control Panel in Windows search and launch it
- Choose Ease of Access > Ease of Access Center
- Select Make the keyboard easier to use
- Uncheck Turn on Sticky Keys
- Click Set up Sticky Keys
- Uncheck Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times
- Apply changes
Terminate Sticky Keys Service
Stop background processes to prevent reactivation:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to launch Task Manager
- Under Processes, locate or Sticky Keys
- Right-click and select End task
- Repeat for any related accessibility processes
Registry Method (Advanced Users)
Permanently block shortcut activation:
- Type regedit in Run dialog (Windows + R)
- Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelAccessibilityStickyKeys
- Double-click Flags registry value
- Change Value Data to 506 (disables shortcut)
- Restart your computer
After applying these changes, Sticky Keys won't activate via repeated SHIFT presses. For laptops, additionally disable keyboard shortcut conflicts in BIOS/UEFI settings if accidental triggers persist during boot sequences.
