Follow these steps to disable Sticky Keys quickly on Windows:
Method 1: Using the Settings Menu
- Press the Shift key five times quickly. This triggers the Sticky Keys prompt.
- Click the "Go to the Ease of Access settings to disable the keyboard shortcut" link within the pop-up window.
- Locate the "Use Sticky Keys" toggle under the "Keyboard" settings.
- Switch the toggle to "Off".
- Uncheck the box labeled "Allow the shortcut key to start Sticky Keys".
- Close Settings. The shortcut is now disabled.
Method 2: Using the Control Panel (Older Windows Versions)
- Press Win + R, type `control` and press Enter to open Control Panel.
- Select "Ease of Access" then click "Ease of Access Center".
- Choose "Make the keyboard easier to use".
- Find the "Set up Sticky Keys" section.
- Uncheck "Turn on Sticky Keys".
- Click "Set up Sticky Keys" and uncheck "Turn on Sticky Keys when SHIFT is pressed five times".
- Click "Apply" then "OK".
Method 3: Blocking Persistent Activation
If Sticky Keys activates unintentionally despite being "off":
- Press Win + R, type `regedit` and press Enter (Admin rights required).
- Navigate to: `HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelAccessibilityStickyKeys`
- Double-click the "Flags" String value in the right pane.
- Change the "Value data" field to `506` (This disables Sticky Keys and its activation shortcut).
- Click OK and close Registry Editor. Log out or restart your computer.
Important: Method 3 involves the registry. Create a system restore point or backup the registry key before modifying. Incorrect changes can cause system instability.
