Discord messages failing to load can disrupt communication. Follow these four essential steps to resolve it:
Force Restart Discord
Completely close and restart the Discord application:
- On PC: Right-click Discord in the system tray & select Quit Discord. Relaunch.
- On Mobile: Swipe Discord away from recent apps. Reopen.
- This clears temporary glitches affecting message loading.
Check Your Internet Connection
Ensure your network connection is stable:

- Run a speed test. High latency or packet loss can disrupt Discord.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Restart your router/modem.
- Messages require consistent data flow to load.
Clear Discord Cache (Desktop)
Corrupted cache files cause loading issues. Press Ctrl + R (Windows) or Cmd + R (Mac) while Discord is focused to reload the client and clear cache. For a deeper reset:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + I (Windows) or Cmd + Option + I (Mac).
- Right-click the refresh icon, select Empty Cache and Hard Reload.
Update Discord
Running an outdated app version often causes issues:
- Desktop: Settings (User Settings) > Check for Updates.
- Mobile: Visit your device's app store to install any available update.
